Attention Triathletes
The 3rd annual race is almost here and now is your time to sign up.  
Both R&M Cyclery and The Springfield Running Center are providing numerous raffle prizes after the races. In addition, Hammer Products and the Springfield Triathlon Club are also providing prizes for the raffle. You must be present to win. The Springfield Running Center is raffling off a mens and womens pair of high end running shoes and many other running items. Don't wait any longer, the weather prediction looks good, the course is ready and the time is right for the first outdoor triathlons of the season.

April Events

Register early. We can only accept the first 300 racers!

The Abe's Mini Triathlon will be held April 18, 2010 at 12:00, noon. The race includes a 100 yard swim in the heated indoor PORTA pool, then a 5 mile bike ride down a flat rural road and finishes with a 1 mile run on a closed course. This event is tailored to the novice triathlete and will serve as a great introduction to triathlon for children and adults. Post race showers will be available at the PORTA pool.

The Pioneer Sprint Triathlon will begin at 1:00 pm and offers a 300 yard swim in the heated indoor PORTA pool, a beautiful 13 mile bike ride on a rolling and flat prairie road and the chance to run 3.1 miles through picturesque Petersburg.  The run will take you past century old architectural gems, past the Edgar Lee Master’s home, past the courthouse where young Abraham practiced law and up and down the streets of Petersburg. Post race showers will be available at the PORTA pool.

All ages are welcome and Clydesdales, Athenas and teams are encouraged to enter. An awards ceremony will follow after the last runner crosses the finish line. Dave Cox is the race director and can be reached by email here.

Overall male, female,clydesdale and athena will receive a $25 gift certificate from R&M cyclery. Race day repairs will be provided compliments of R&M Cyclery and last minute items will be available for purchase on race day. Compliments of the Springfield Running Center one lucky male and one lucky female triathlete will be randomly chose to win a new pair of running shoes during the after race dinner. Complimentary post race massages provided by Midwest Technical Institute.

Racers should tune to 1610 am for the latest race information.

Race Day Traffic Control

The PORTA High School approach on Sheridan Road will remain open until 11:00 am on race day.  Racers are encouraged to arrive via this road early for both races.

At 11:00 am traffic will be closed on Sheridan Road and all traffic will be directed north on Route 97 to 12th street. Then racers will proceed SW onto 12th street and continue to the high school.  At that point proceed behind the high school west following the triathlon parking signs to the triathlon parking lot.

Please plan ahead and arrive early.  The heated pool will be open to work on your swim. And if you desire, donuts will be be avialable for your pre-race fueling.
